Brenda LaManna

President and Founder, Damselfly Designs

As President and Founder of Damselfly Designs, Brenda LaManna believes that a magnificent design is her gift to each client. “We are the last people to leave a finished room, ballroom, courtyard – wherever our design installation occurs, before the doors are opened. The gasp of joy and feelings of awe as the doors are opened set the tone for the event. That has to happen every time.”

Whether she is designing a wedding in Indonesia, a gala in Florida, an international conference in California, a Bar or Bat Mitzvah in Connecticut or working with a team on parade floats at the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena each detail, each design element has to count. Beauty and elegance are infused into every detail.

Founded more than twenty years ago, Damselfly Designs is a full service event décor firm. The name of her company originates from the good luck “damselflies” that circled Brenda and her husband, Lawrence, as they finalized the purchase of their property “Damselfly Acre” in South Salem, New York. The adjacent barn served as the workshop and studio for her creations.

In late 2010, Damselfly Designs returned to lower Westchester to better serve their growing clientele in Manhattan. Housed in a converted historic bank building that boasts 25-foot ceilings, 14 foot columns and antique crown moldings, the workshop serves as an incredible backdrop to her extensive collection of design elements. The large central worktable is covered at any given time with masses of the freshest seasonal blooms.

Clients are welcomed into the space and meet with Brenda personally. It is here that Brenda will listen as the clients show her all the clippings, photos and inspirations for their event. Brenda then is able to “read” all these pieces and transform them into a unique and cohesive design scheme.

Brenda and her team truly embody the philosophy that as a team, they are able to make the client’s vision a magnificent reality.

Charlotte Hamilton

Event Producer

Charlotte realized her destiny was in event decoration when she organized a family reunion for over 100 guests and she “loved every minute of it.” Since joining Damselfly Designs, Charlotte has become the organizational heart of the Damselfly team and is largely responsible for translating Damselfly Designs’ fabulous concepts into real-world, functioning realities. Charlotte has a hand in every aspect of the Damselfly operation, from ordering all the pieces of an event to on-site setup and strike to interfacing day-to-day with clients. Charlotte’s natural talent for organization and her consideration of every detail makes her an invaluable team-member at Damselfly.

Katherine Gonzalez

Floral Manager

Katherine Gonzalez comes to Damselfly Designs all the way from Phoenix, Arizona, where she earned 9 years of floral design experience working in retail floral shops since the age of 15. Her professionalism in floral design at such a young age led to her induction into AIFD at 23, making her one of the youngest members in their history. Katherine is involved on the ground level with Damselfly’s projects, doing floral arrangements for all events and assisting with overall event design, decor, and execution. Her naturally talented and experienced eye for color, arrangement, and overall perfection in floral design contributes enormously to the success of every undertaking at Damselfly Designs.

Lawrence LaManna

Logistics Director

Lawrence LaManna is an integral and crucial member of the Damselfly Designs= team. Husband to company President, Brenda LaManna, his role as Logistics Director is a pivotal one. As much as designers love to talk about design becoming reality, a successful reality from the client’s point of view must include timely, accurate, smooth delivery and installation. This is where Lawrence’s expertise is invaluable. On any given weekend, he will coordinate the crews, trucks, routes, traffic patterns and venue compliance regulations required to successfully deliver completed florals and design-scapes to various venues throughout Manhattan, Westchester and Connecticut.

Once the event ends, this process begins again, in reverse. Design elements are broken down, crated up and carried back to waiting trucks. Damselfly Designs handles clients nationwide and globally. Lawrence’s professional timeline is one that runs twenty-four hours a day. Logistics are planned with built-in contingency scenarios to allow for unexpected situations that must be handled. An event design, set up and break down must always be executed perfectly. Period.
